Administrative Computing Policy

Policy Background

Officially adopted in September 2007, PPM 200-45 establishes oversight and accountability for existing and proposed campus administrative computing systems. It is designed to ensure that campus administrative information technology investments benefit from timely review and broad consultation, promote integrated systems, and minimize impacts on business processes and workload.

Focus

The policy focuses on administrative systems with a significant impact on or interaction with other campus systems. Primarily these are large, campus-wide applications, or those that cross college and/or administrative unit boundaries. Although the policy does not focus on department-specific systems, department heads may find the model useful to support more strategic approaches to local technology investment.

Goals

Though oversight and accountability may be established through the 200-45 process, the overarching goal is to stimulate conversation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing among UC Davis colleges and departments. This increased collaboration is intended to provide the following impacts:

  • Increase coordination among major computing systems, enhancing compatibility and interoperability
  • Reduce duplication of effort among both developers and users (staff, faculty, and students) of campus computing systems
  • Promote informed and cost-saving planning for purchase of, or changes in, major campus computing systems
  • Support development of more a powerful and standardized pool of applications that easily transcend departmental boundaries
