UC Davis Identity and Access Management
UC Davis and the UC Davis Health System use hundreds of different business applications, most with their own identity and access management systems. Challenges to managing so many systems include controlling access to the various networks, maintaining a consistent user identity across applications, and integrating new systems into the existing infrastructure. The lack of a centralized management system significantly increases the cost to deploy and maintain new and existing systems and increases the risk of a successful security attack seeking sensitive identity information.
The jointly-developed Identity and Access Management (IAM) strategy will enable UC Davis and the UC Davis Health System to better manage the broad range of digital identities required by the organization as a whole. The implementation of an IAM infrastructure will improve security, simplify network application access, and leverage economies of scale by consolidating identity information, centrally managing authentication and authorization, and reducing the cost of integrating additional electronic services to the organization’s digital offerings. In conjunction with the IAM project, the health system will also implement an Enterprise Single Sign‐on solution, significantly reducing the time spent by users to sign on to various healthcare systems.
